Weekly Gold — Week 16: What’s Insurance Good For Anyways?

Welcome to Champions Round!

Golden Nuggets 💰

Like all great insurance you don’t want to ever have to use it, but damn it’s good to have it when you need it. Case in point: Cowboys RB Tony Pollard. Just before kickoff Dallas announces that Ezekiel Elliott would not play against the 49ers. Pollard gets the start and goes OFF. 31 points later and he won a lot of people fantasy semifinal matchups. Remember this when drafting your teams next years. Insurance policies are good!

The Jets came away with one of the most improbable wins in the history of the NFL. No, seriously. New York was 17-point road underdog to the Rams and managed a 23–20 victory. It was a great win for the players and the 2020 team, but an absolutely HORRENDOUS win for the franchise and fan base. With the win, the Jets no longer have the inside track to Trevor Lawrence. If the season ended today they would be picking second in the NFL Draft, behind the Jaguars. If the Jets fail to get the top pick in the NFL Draft, the whole season is a waste.

The Dolphins continue to remind me of the 2011 Denver Broncos, except the Dolphins have a better coach. The 2011 Broncos won every tight game behind the play of an elite defense, great special teams and Tim Tebow. Or maybe in spite of Tebow. Miami, with Tua Tagovailoa at the helm, seemingly gets every break imaginable and is winning with elite special teams, a top 5 defense and a QB who has some sort of magic that you just can’t put your finger on. They may be a tough out if they make the playoffs.

Earth to Pittsburgh? The loss to the Redskins was defensible. The loss to the Bills was understandable. The loss on Monday to the Bengals? Completely baffling and embarrassing. Now the AFC North is completely in play. The defense was bored against the Bengals, while the offense continues to be anemic. Big time trouble in Pittsburgh.

Tough end to the season for Clyde-Edwards Helaire. He may come back for the playoffs, but after suffering a high ankle sprain against the Saints it looks like his regular season is done. Such a weird season for a player who after Week 1 we thought would be.

Moments of Payne 👀

Thank you Tampa Bay for putting me in “Keeper League Purgatory”. I was ready to bid farewell to Leonard Fournette in the off-season, but now things have changed. After watching him hold Ronald Jones’ water all season, he finally reminded us all who he is. Pound for pound the angriest runner in the league. An undisputed RB1.

So now I sit. Weighing my options. Roll with James Robinson next year or give Leonard another shot…

Waiver Wire Targets 🎯

Jalen Hurts — Eagles QB
If he’s still on the waiver wire in one of your leagues and your in the finals, you have to grab Hurts and you probably have to start him. He’s been electric thus far and has an incredible matchup against the Cowboys. He’ll be a top 5 QB play this week.

Salvon Ahmed — Dolphins RB
We’ve talked about Ahmed before but he probably found a way back to the waiver wire after he missed the past couple of games. Well, he’s back and looks to be the starter for Week 16. He gets a juicy matchup against the Raiders.

Russell Gage — Falcons WR
If Julio Jones is out for Week 16, Gage will be worthy of starting in all leagues. He gets the Kansas City defense, which is a decent matchup. He saw 10 targets last week against the Bucs and should see just as many this week.

Ito Smith — Falcons RB
The Falcons announced on Monday that Todd Gurley would no longer be the lead back and that Ito Smith would be the RB1. Time to grab The Judge off the waiver wire.

FSGA Update 🏈

Coming into Sunday we were in a bit of a hole, down 35 points. However, our roster came alive in a big way. Calvin Ridley, Travis Kelce and Kyler Murray all had massive games, while our RB trio of Nick Chubb, JK Dobbins and Jeff Wilson all scored TDs.

We are officially on to the FSGA Central Conference title game! We will be facing off against Yahoo! Sports, which has an absolutely STACKED roster. Should be a tough one. Can’t wait!
