Weekly Gold: A New Winston Belt Champ is Crowned!
Welcome back to Champions Round!
Golden Nuggets 💰
The most important thing I saw on Sunday: Baltimore, we may have a problem. Lamar Jackson is a special talent, there’s no denying that. Worthy MVP winner last year, without question. But in games where you need Lamar to win the game from the pocket, he has fallen short. The turnovers are also becoming an issue. Baltimore is still going to win a bunch of games with him at QB. He’s not going anywhere. But because of his stature in the league and his otherworldly talent, expectations are high. And thus far, in big games, he has not been able to get it done. Something to monitor as we move forward. The noise isn’t going away.

The Winston Belt 🏆
Daniel Jones is now the proud owner of the Winston Belt, the NFL’s top fake award for QBs who in two minutes can make you pop a bottle of champagne AND throw a remote at the TV. Congrats! It’s a very prestigious honor.
The Champions Round Show Ep. 10 🎬
Take a listen to our latest Champions Round podcast. This week we’re talking big trades, rookie breakouts and making crucial roster decisions heading into the most important part of the season.
We also talk a LOT of gambling stuff, including the odds on the Presidential election.
My best bet for the week: Chargers -1.5 vs. Raiders
Buy & Sell 🔄
It’s trade season! Who should you be buying and selling on? Here are a couple of targets to think about.
Buy:
Jonathan Taylor (IND-RB), Mark Andrews (TE-BAL), Michael Thomas (WR-NO), Hollywood Brown (WR-BAL)
Sell:
Adam Thielen (WR-MIN), Robert Woods (WR-LAR), Kareem Hunt (RB-CLE)
Moments of Payne 👑
I started Tua and have zero regrets. It felt great seeing him win his first game as a pro…It’s also worth mentioning I didn’t win in a single league this week. It’s clear I’m too invested in his comeback story.
Why do I keep giving Devin Singletary a hall pass?! It’s clear Josh Allen is the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd run option. Singletary continues to sneak into all my lineups, disguised as a RB2, then gets game scripted out every week.
Stat correction Gods didn’t save me this week. I thought there was a PPR loophole when a QB overthrows a WR too many times in a game. That rule should be implemented in every league. Call it the Winston Belt Daniel Jones memorial bonus point.
Waiver Wire Targets 🎯
Allen Lazard — Packers WR
Lazard practiced last week and is going to come off IR shortly. He could be an immediate FLEX starter on most teams.
Cam Akers — Rams RB
Here we go again. Darrell Henderson may be injured and Akers looked good in relief in Miami. I know, I know. Akers can’t be trusted. But if he breaks out he could take the lead in that backfield.
Marvin Jones — Lions WR
This one is easy. Kenny Golladay is going to be out for at least a week and probably longer. Jones takes over as the №1 for the Lions and will be worthy of starting in all leagues.
Ross Dwelley — 49ers TE
With George Kittle out for the next eight weeks and with Jordan Reed’s injury situation, Dwelley could have a big role on a 49ers team that can’t get healthy.
FSGA Update 🏈
This was a weird week for the Champions Round squad. We didn’t have the services of Kyler Murray and Antonio Gibson and we’re still without Nick Chubb. Our starting RBs: Phillip Lindsay and JK Dobbins. On Thursday night we lost Calvin Ridley. Thank the fantasy gods that he’s seemingly ok.
Anyways, we thought this week was kind of a wash. However, much to our surprise, we did okay on Sunday and entered Monday Night down 11.5 points against the Fantasy Pros squad with the young king Darius Slayton yet to play. Did he get it done for us?
The short answer is no. The long answer is pain. Lots and lots of pain.
Without going into all the gory details, let’s just say that Winston Belt champ Daniel Jones is the worst and we ended up losing by less than a point.
We will now be selling #FreeSlayton t-shirts on a street corner near you.
Enjoy Week 9 and good luck!
