Big Board Showdown: Round 1 is in the books!
Big Board Showdown is live on Champions Round
Welcome to the Big Board Showdown! Seven Rounds. One Champion. This is where the NFL Draft meets Fantasy Football!
In case you’re not in a league, here’s what you’re missing out on:
Round 1 Highlights 🎞
Round 1 of the NFL Draft was completed on Thursday night and went better than expected. The “virtual draft” was wildly successful and ultimately went off without a hitch (other than NFL commissioner Roger Goodell awarding the 2020 NFL Draft to Las Vegas 🤔🤔🤔).

Our Mock Draft 3.0 was a bit of a mixed bag, but ultimately was a decent guide for how the first round would play out.
Here’s some Winners and Losers from Day 1:
Winners 🏆
Dallas Cowboys: They managed to get one of the top wide receivers on the board in Oklahoma product CeeDee Lamb. Receiver was not a position of need for them, but Lamb was great value at 17 overall. That offense is going to be lethal with Lamb, Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, Ezekiel Elliott and Dak Prescott.
Arizona Cardinals: Having Isaiah Simmons fall into your lap at 8 overall is pretty good. The Cardinals probably would have liked to have drafted an offensive lineman, but Simmons was too good to pass up. Big win for the Cardinals, a team on the rise.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire: Talk about walking into a great situation. The LSU running back has the golden ticket in Kansas City and gets to play with Patrick Mahomes for the next five years. Great pick by KC given Edwards-Helaire’s receiving skills.
Los Angeles Chargers and Miami Dolphins: Both teams end up with the QBs they wanted without any drama. Plus, Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert probably went in the right order. Good for both teams.
Tompa Bay Buccaneers: Yes, TOMpa Bay keeps on winning. The best QB of all-time, one of the top Tight End’s of all-time and now an elite offensive tackle to give them time to do their thing. Some people thought Tristan Wirfs was the best tackle in the draft. He ends up going 13th to TB and Brady has to be thrilled.
Losers 🤡
Aaron Rodgers: With Cole Kmet and Denzel Mims on the board, the Green Bay Packers traded up to get …. Rodgers’ replacement: Utah State QB Jordan Love. This may end up being a good move for the Packers, but it seems as though Rodgers’ time in Green Bay may finally have an expiration date.
Mike Vrabel’s War Room: Gotta know you’re on camera at all times! Thankfully he was just on a stool and not THE stool, but what a wild war room scene for the Titans head coach.
Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles got a wide receiver! Wait…who did they pick? Look, Jalen Reagor could be a decent player and we know they wanted game breaking speed. However, it’s tough to argue that the Eagles made a good decision when Justin Jefferson was on the board at 21 (not to mention Brandon Aiyuk). Seems like a bit of a reach for Reagor.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors League Update 🎗
In case you missed it, Champions Round hosted a special live stream draft event on April 21 to benefit Team Rubicon.
We were joined by NFL stars Tyrann Mathieu and Melvin Gordon, both of whom have Champions Round teams in our #NeighborsHelpingNeighbors League.
Here’s our up to date standings in that league after Day 1 of the NFL Draft:
The Honey Badger is off to a strong start! However, with two QB’s that may not get drafted can he stay in the lead? Time will tell. Stay tuned as we’ll be updating the standings every day.
Look Ahead to Round 2 and 3 🍻
There’s a ton of great players available on Friday. One of the great things about the 2020 NFL Draft is the depth, especially at wide receiver. We should see a lot of great receivers come off the board in the first 10–20 picks on Friday night.
Some of other players of note available on Friday: Jalen Hurts, Jake Fromm, Jacob Eason, Julian Okwara, Denzel Mims, KJ Hamler, Jaylon Johnson, Josh Jones and others.
