One of the interesting wrinkles of this game mode is the scoring system:
While you’ll note above that the scoring system seems straight forward, we left one part off: The Big Board Bonus. Yes, that’s right. There’s more than one way to win.
Sure, if you have Joe Burrow, Chase Young and Tua Tagovailoa on your roster you’re going to have a great chance to win. But if you select a player who is taken with the LAST pick in the NFL Draft, you’ll also have an excellent shot at claiming the crown.
The 2020 NFL Draft will have 255 picks. If you draft the player that is chosen with the 255th pick, aka Mr. Irrelevant, you will receive a 50 POINT bonus. That’s enough to take you from last place to first!
The Big Board Bonus is the ultimate fantasy game changer.
So, how can you utilize this game changer to your benefit in Big Board Showdown?
Go For The Glory?
Trying to nail one pick outside of the top 10 is difficult enough. Nailing the last pick of the last round is a whole different beast. However, if you’re able to pull it off, you will be able to everlasting bragging rights and likely a championship.
So is it worth it? That’s up to you. If it were me, I wouldn’t consider going for Mr. Irrelevant in 6 or 8 team leagues. However, if you’re playing in leagues of 10 or more people, I think the juice may be worth the squeeze.
The reason to go for it in leagues of 10 or more is that the depth on your roster is going to be iffy at best. In the last couple of rounds, you’re likely going to be choosing players who are going to go between the 4th and 7th rounds of the NFL Draft. So why choose a player who could get between 0 and 6 points when you can go after a player who could get between 0 and 50 POINTS!
Yes, this means you’re going to be taking a risk. Yes, it’s more likely than not that you will end up taking a player that scores either 2 or 0 points. But hey, you gotta risk it to get the biscuit. I say go for it. Become a legend.
Who to target?
Right now the New York Giants are scheduled to have pick №255 in the 2020 NFL Draft. Should you choose to risk it all to get guess pick №255, you should first consider what type of player the Giants may be interested in.
Sure, this pick could get traded away. In fact, I would guess there’s a 40-percent chance this pick gets moved. But we can’t account for that right now. So let’s stick with the Giants.
The Giants have serious needs along the offensive and defensive lines. Those are the most pressing issues, but New York will likely be addressing both early in the draft. Expect them to look elsewhere with this pick.
It’s worth noting the Giants have a new head coach in Joe Judge, who brought along with him a staff with tons of college football experience. Some of his new assistants came from Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri and Tennessee. It wouldn’t be a surprise then to see the Giants load up on SEC players in the 2020 Draft. Judge himself is a Mississippi State alum.
So which players could be a potential match. Here’s my top 5 options:
1. Rico Dowdle, RB, South Carolina
2. Brian Cole II, Safety, Mississippi State
3. Binjimen Victor, WR, Ohio State
4. Lawrence Cager, WR, Georgia
5. Daniel Thomas, Safety, Auburn
